All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest airline, is undergoing a major fleet expansion. This move aims to strengthen its global reach and meet the increasing demand for air travel. The ANA fleet expansion includes new aircraft, improved services, and more international routes. Here’s a closer look at ANA’s ambitious plans.

New Aircraft Orders

To support its growth, ANA has placed orders for 20 new aircraft. This includes 10 Boeing 787s, 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and 18 Boeing 777-9s. These new aircraft will significantly enhance ANA’s international fleet and long-haul service capabilities. Deliveries are expected to start in 2025.

This part of ANA’s fleet expansion focuses on replacing older aircraft with more fuel-efficient and sustainable models. The addition of the new Boeing 787 and 737 MAX 8 will help ANA reduce operational costs, improve customer comfort, and reduce its carbon footprint. These aircraft align with ANA’s vision for a greener future and a modern fleet.

Strengthening Regional Networks with New Aircraft

ANA’s fleet expansion isn’t limited to international flights. The airline’s subsidiary, ANA Wings, will launch 16 new domestic routes from Tokyo Haneda Airport starting in 2025. To support this growth, ANA Wings has also acquired seven pre-owned De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. These turboprop planes are ideal for shorter routes, ensuring efficient operations on regional flights.

This regional fleet expansion will cater to growing domestic travel demands. It allows ANA to connect more destinations within Japan, offering passengers more convenient options for travel while also boosting the airline’s domestic market share.

Expanding International Routes

As part of its ongoing ANA fleet expansion, the airline will add new long-haul routes to its network. Beginning in the winter of 2024-2025, ANA will launch nonstop flights to Milan, Stockholm, and Istanbul. These new routes will be operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliners, further extending ANA’s global network.

The expansion of ANA’s international routes is aimed at meeting the needs of both business and leisure travelers. These additions to the ANA fleet expansion provide enhanced connectivity between Japan and key European cities, improving travel options for passengers and strengthening ANA’s position as a global carrier.

ANA Fleet Expansion

Along with expanding its fleet, ANA is also rethinking its global partnerships. In 2026, ANA will exit the SkyTeam Alliance and join the Star Alliance. This strategic move will further integrate ANA into the Lufthansa Group, offering passengers improved connectivity and shared benefits across a larger network.

The transition to Star Alliance will provide ANA passengers with more efficient transfer options, access to over 130 lounges worldwide, and expanded flight choices. The airline’s commitment to enhancing its global network and passenger experience will complement the ongoing ANA fleet expansion.
