Construction has officially begun on the Mukaab cube skyscraper in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 400-meter-high building will be the centerpiece of the 19-square-kilometer New Murabba development. Once completed, it will be the world’s largest building by volume, overtaking the Boeing Everett Factory in Washington.
Designed by AtkinsRéalis, the Mukaab will stand 400 meters tall, with each of its sides measuring 400 meters in length. The building will feature a vast interior atrium surrounding a spiraling central tower, with a futuristic architectural design inspired by the modern Najdi style, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s heritage in a contemporary way.
The building will have over two million square meters of space. This includes offices, retail stores, hotels, and cultural attractions. There will also be an immersive theater, a museum, and over 100,000 residential units. The Mukaab will create a vibrant new downtown area for Riyadh.
Set to be completed by 2030, the Mukaab is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan.

The developers, the New Murabba Development Company, have reported that the groundwork for the Mukaab cube skyscraper is already 86 percent complete, marking a major step toward the project’s scheduled completion by 2030.
By the time it opens its doors, the Mukaab cube skyscraper will not only hold the title of the world’s largest building but also transform Riyadh’s position as a modern global metropolis, attracting visitors and investors from across the globe.
